Metamorphosis - Shedding

I have described this trip as transformative for us, a true Metamorphosis, and this is true in many ways. Not least of which is the process of getting rid of a lot of our possessions. While we have decided to keep some things, the accelerated purging of so much stuff has been wonderfully energizing. As we pack up the POD I keep thinking, "do we really need to keep this?", but for the most part the stuff making its way into the POD is all part of our active day to day use in the real world.

As for the shed layers, we have donated a lot of stuff and sold some on Craigslist and EBay. Now that we are probably not going to have a garage sale we'll have lots more odds and ends to donate. In the end we aren't going to have enough time or patience for a garage sale. The last one we did in North Carolina netted a couple hundred dollars and was overall so exhausting to have people nickel and dime us over stuff that we had once cared for and/or paid a lot more for. I sell stuff on Ebay that can be easily mailed and anything else worth more than about $20 goes on Craigslist. I've had some nice conversations with the people who have come out and taken our stuff; there really are a lot of nice folks out there. Craigslist also brings you into contact with folks who say they're going to come pick something up and then cancel last minute or don't even have the decency to call, they just go dark on their email address. Nice.

Having so little space in the trailer is forcing us to bring only what is essential. Each of us will have a duffle of clothes. Each one should include enough layers to be really warm in case of super cold, rain gear, several days change of clothing and basic toiletries. We haven't packed the fridge yet but we'll have staples in there... more later

[Update 9/28]
Well, we had the moving sale after all. We stuck a few signs out and put up a last minute Craigslist posting. In the end we got rid of a bunch more stuff and lined our pockets with some spending money for expenses over next few days. As luck would have it our couch and table, which we've had on CL for over a month now both sold on the same day; thing about CL is that stuff will sell if you lower the price far enough.
I think this picture sums up our life right now... Trailer, POD, and STUFF

Later today we'll be making a big trip to Goodwill...
